Lotus Light Sangha Blog: Meditation, Breath, Yoga - Connecting Body & Mind

In today's world, we have access to an abundance of different spiritual practices, books, teachers, attunements, and empowerments. However, its important to also maintain the very fundamental practices that have consistently supported the spiritual paths of many for thousands of years - awareness meditation and yoga.

In our meditations this week, we focused on the practice of awareness during meditation and then expanded the practice through yoga by becoming aware of the connection of the mind and body through the breath.  We enjoyed very deep and simple meditations where we practiced awareness, breath, movement of the body and mind through breath, and as our evening came to a close we found ourselves lying on our backs in corpse pose as we gently moved the pranic energy of a clear meditative mind into our bodies through the connection of breath. It was a powerful reminder that to awaken, we must first be aware, and when aware, we move that clarity into our bodies and our world through mindfulness.

We enjoyed two readings this week from the Yoga International Magazine, published by the Himalayan Institute. The article, "The Legacy of the Sages" by Pandit Rajmani Tigunait offered such good insight into the importance of these foundational practices. Our first reading is a section of the article entitled, "Mastering the Mind" and our second reading was "Connecting the Body and Mind". Here is a link to the article for your enjoyment.
